I sure wish Tina would learn how to use Excel before she replies with nonsense. The way to open a.iqy file in Excel for Mac is to go to the Data tab of the Ribbon. Click the From Text button. In the Choose a File dialog, in the search box enter.iqy to display your.iqy files. You can save the search if you do this often.
- Save the.iqy file if you want to rerun the export with fresh data without going through the 'Export to Spreadsheet' procedure (described above). 'Save As' an Excel Workbook, if you need a static copy of the data. The workbook will NOT refresh new data. Only the web query (.iqy) file can.
- A really useful new feature was added to Get & Transform (the functionality previously known as Power Query) in the latest updates for the Office 365 click-to-run version of Excel 2016: the ability to export and import ODC files containing M queries.
I have a web application and we have a button on cetain report pages that creates and launches a .IQY file. The result of this button is to load Excel and fetches the data for the URL contained in the .IQY file.

I can see calc has a very similar manual feature using Insert -> External data.Open .iqy File In Excel
Is there an equivalent file type I can create and launch so that Calc loads the data from the HTML page automatically rather than the user having to launch calc and manually copy and paste the URL?
I've not been able to find anything documented on this.
Appreciate any feedback.
